CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's flagship public university is expecting a visit by federal inspectors who want to know if the school has been accurately reporting campus crimes as required by federal law.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said Friday that U.S. Education Department inspectors will visit the campus next month.

A former assistant dean of students who resigned four months ago accused the school of underreporting sexual assault cases for 2010 in an annual report to the federal government on campus crime.

UNC-Chapel Hill has denied underreporting crimes and said it's cooperating with the investigation.

The university this week provided the federal agency with a spreadsheet detailing all student complaints of sexual harassment or assault through this month and what was done about each.
