RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The state Transportation Department is holding two public meetings about proposed toll changes on its ferry routes.

The public hearings are scheduled for Monday at Wake Commons in Raleigh and March 18 at Pamlico Community College in Grantsboro. The changes include rate increases on the Southport-Fort Fisher, Swan Quarter-Ocracoke and Cedar Island-Ocracoke routes. In addition, they include adding tolls on the Bayview-Aurora and Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach routes by July 1.

Ferries between the Currituck Sound and Knotts Island and Ocracoke to Hatteras would remain free.
