NC university to expand health sciences school

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — High Point University says it plans to construct a $60 million building to help expand its School of Health Sciences.

The building will house that school and a proposed pharmacy school. It will grow to include proposed master's level programs in physician assistant studies and doctoral degrees in physical therapy and pharmacy programs.

If built, the pharmacy school would be the first in the Triad and fourth in the state after UNC Chapel Hill, Campbell and Wingate. Because it's a private university, High Point doesn't need legislative approval for the pharmacy school.

An attempt to open a pharmacy school at UNC Greensboro in 2010 was rejected by the UNC Board of Governors in favor of satellite programs of UNC Chapel Hill's school at UNC Asheville and Elizabeth City State University.
