NC museum screens movie about farmworker program

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The state Museum of History is screening a documentary about a grueling season on a North Carolina farm and is giving visitors a chance to meet one of its filmmakers.

The museum will screen "The Guestworker" at 7 p.m. Thursday. Filmmaker Charlie Thompson will introduce the movie and lead a question-and-answer session afterward.

The movie tells the story of Don Candelario Moreno, a 66-year-old Mexican farmer who has been coming to North Carolina since the 1960s as a laborer through the U.S. government's H-2A visa program. The movie was filmed in the United States and Mexico and looks at the program from different viewpoints.

Thompson is director of the Benjamin N. Duke Scholars Program and the undergraduate program at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
