BRYSON CITY, N.C. (AP) — Swain County authorities are investigating a case where a dog was found in a trash bin alongside a dead dog.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (http://avlne.ws/Z7Xozl) that Thomas Carswell found the dog Wednesday in a container off U.S. 19 outside Bryson City when he was dropping off trash.
Carswell says the dog had pushed his head and paws out of the bag.
Veterinarians at Noah's Ark Companion Animal Hospital in Franklin are caring for the dog, which they named Bryson. They say the dog's muzzle is injured and he may have broken bones in his face but he still wants to eat.
Chief Deputy Jason Gardner of the Swain County Sheriff's Office says authorities do not have a suspect now.
Swain County does not have an animal shelter.
