Cases continued until both suspects get lawyers

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Two Old Dominion University students accused of multiple felony sex charges, involving alleged date rape drugs, appeared in a Norfolk courtroom Monday morning for an arraignment.

Reid Evans, a rising senior wide receiver on the ODU football team, and Jack Ly, also an ODU student, are each charged with two counts of rape, sodomy, abduction, conspiracy to commit sodomy and conspiracy to commit abduction.

Police said the alleged assaults happened June 17 in a campus dormitory. According to ODU spokeswoman Jennifer Mullen Collins, the female victims do not go to the school.

Evans took a long look at his family during Monday's hearing and some of them cried. Ly showed no emotion and never turned around.

Their cases were continued until both men get lawyers to represent them. Both men are being held in the Norfolk City Jail under no bond.

ODU Football Head Coach Bobby Wilder suspended Evans indefinitely, in light of his arrest, saying he did it in the best interest of the football program.
