NORFOLK, Va. - The elderly man beaten in a violent home invasion Tuesday has
died.
Police said 90-year-old Marion Wheeler succumbed to the
injuries Saturday evening at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Wheeler and his wife, who is in her 80s, suffered critical injuries
in the attack.
The couple lived a rather peaceful existence in their home on
Sunset Drive in the Bayview neighborhood for more than 50 years.
Police say a back window was open when officers arrived. Neighbors
say the woman was able to call a relative who lived close by for
help.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no one has been
charged. However, police said they have a person of interest
identified in the beatings. On Wednesday, police arrested Brian
Jordan, 29, in connection with the home invasion and brutal beating
of an elderly woman on Cape View Avenue. Police said Jordan lives
in the 1800 block of Croyden Avenue, the same neighborhood as the
victims. He was arrested at his home at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Norfolk Police Spokesman Chris Amos said says investigators
are "looking at Jordan very hard" in connection with the home
invasion of the Wheelers.
The woman attacked on Cape View Avenue was released from the
hospital and is staying with family.
