NAGS HEAD, NC - Police say a Manteo teenager was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of US Highway 158 (South Croatan Highway) and Danube Street in Nags Head.
Thomas Reid Smith DeBlieu, 16, died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident.
Officials say DeBlieu was the lone passenger in a 2002 Ford driven by Taylor Catherine Carawan, 17, of Wanchese.
According to authorities, as Carawan was attempting to turn west onto Danube Street from South Croatan Highway, the Ford was struck broadside by an 1999 Jeep traveling south on the highway and driven by Joseph Maurice Powell, 44, of Nags Head.
All victims were treated and transported to Outer Banks Hospital. DeBlieu was later transported to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, where he died.
Police say neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in this motor vehicle collision. The investigation into the accident is continuing.
