HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Emergency crews across Hampton Roads were well prepared for the possbile effects of Tropical Storm Danny.
"We're just looking at the potential for impact and looking at our emergency management plan, which is like our guideline for roles and responsibilities in the departments," Battalion Chief Jeff Terwillinger told WAVY.com.
At the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Friday morning, surfers flocked to the beach in usual numbers only to find the average wave heights, unlike last week when Hurricane Bill caused strong surf and heavy rip currents.
In North Carolina, tourists were still playing in the water. But Dare County officials are warning swimmers and sun-bathers to use common sense. "Go to the beach, call a lifeguard, find out what the conditions are. Just stay safe," Dare County Emergency Management Spokesperson Sandy Sanderson said.
Large swells from Danny are expected to produce dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents along the U.S. East Coast over the next day or two.
