RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - Governor McDonnell wants Virginians to support the families of the 30 Americans lost over the weekend.

The governor encouraged the support of The Navy SEAL Foundation and other organizations that work to help families cope in their time of need.

Governor McDonnell said, “These are excellent organizations that help to take some of the immediate cost burden away from families, and continue to provide support to families down the road. I want to encourage every Virginian to make a donation today, no matter how small. This is another way that Virginians can show that we are forever thankful to those who have given their lives for our freedom, and we will not forget their loved ones here at home.”

The Navy SEAL Foundation supports families by providing immediate family support and tragedy assistance. The group also provides scholarships and educational assistance to the children and spouses of servicemen and women. Virginians can make an immediate donation of $10 to The Navy SEAL Foundation by texting SEAL to 90999. You can also visit their website here to make a contribution.

The following organizations also support families affected by Saturday's attack in Afghanistan:

Armed Forces Relief Trust

Special Operations Warrior Foundation

The Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation
