PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - People in the Hampton Roads area are responding to the news that a military helicopter was shot down in eastern Afghanistan, killing 30 U.S. special operation troops, most of them from the elite SEAL Team Six.
Bryce wrote on the WAVY Facebook page , "as we digest this horrific loss please do not dishonor the memories and lives of these warriors by using it to call for the troops to come home. I would bet anything that those highly trained soldiers believed in their mission. I think that to use their demise to argue for retreat is the last thing we should do to honor their sacrifice. God Bless the Navy and Semper Fi."
Rosie also on Facebook wrote, "my heart is heavy. I grieve along with the families and our nation."
On Twitter, @Kopina17 said "RIP #NavySEALs you will be dearly missed thank you for your service, and to the families you have our deepest sympathy."
None of the 22 SEAL personnel killed in the crash were part of the team that killed bin Laden in a May raid in Pakistan, but they belonged to the same unit.
This is the deadliest single loss of American forces in the decade-old war against the Taliban.
