Excavator accident leaves one dead

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Police responded to the 2600 block of West Neck Road in the Virginia Beach County section of the city, Sunday night. Police were called at about 11:35 p.m. to a single vehicle accident.
According to Virgina State Police representative Brian Ricardo, a 2002 Saturn sedan was traveling southbound on West Neck Road, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and crashed into the rear of a construction excavator that was parked off the side of the roadway.
The driver of the sedan, identified as 26-year-old Joseph Ryan Kelly, was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say Kelly was wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation is ongoing.
