VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Wednesday night hundreds gathered to say a prayer for three young men killed in a crash last week.
Matthew Kirkbride, Joseph Jenkins and Adam Sherman died Nov. 14 in a crash on Salem Road. They were on their way home from school.
Side by Side.
"I'm going to miss him," said one student.
Candles in hand.
"Adam Sherman was not just a great person, he was an excellent person," said a teacher.
And with heavy hearts.
"These three young men will continue to live on with you," added anther.
Friends and family remember the lives of three young men.
"It kind of puts life in perspective," said Green Run student, Robert Starling. "They say, as a teenager, you never really understand death. This just kind of got to you."
The three teens were on their way home from school when they collided with a van; all three died.
"I've been in education long enough that I've lost here and there, but it's always one (student)," said Green Run teacher Jennifer Eason. "This is much, much harder."
They remember Matthew Kirkbride's smile.
"He was just an old sole," added Eason. "He was very wise and very smart."
Adam Sherman's friendship: "I learned what I know about Adam by observing him and I observed a young man that was loyal to his friends and was quick to take up for them," said one of Adam's teachers.
And Joseph Jenkins' artistry: "I always wanted to jam with him, because I knew he played guitar," added Starling. "I just wish I could have that opportunity."
Three lives cut short, but their memories live on.
"They are never going to be forgotten at Green Run," said one student. "I just want to say, stay strong and we are all going to get through this together."
