Woman killed by her own SUV

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A Norfolk woman is dead after a bizarre car accident in Virginia Beach.

Police say 54-year-old Faye Ann Hinton rear-ended a car around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The accident, at South Military Highway and Providence Road, was minor. The drivers exchanged information and parted ways, police said.

But Hinton couldn't get her 1996 Isuzu Trooper to start, so she popped the hood and climbed out. While she was looking at the engine, her auto was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The resulting impact, transmitted through the Isuzu, threw Hinton more than 50 feet.

Police say Hinton, of the 2300 block of Barre Street in Norfolk, died Thursday morning during surgery.

The crash remains under investigation and charges may be pending.
