VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach Police have released the name of a pedestrian killed by a suspected drunk driver.
57-year-old David Paul Lucas was crossing Va. Beach Blvd. near Great Neck Rd. on Thursday, April 23, when a Nissan Xterra hit him.
A K-9 officer on patrol was stopped a traffic light and witnessed the accident.
Public Information Officer Jimmy Barnes told WAVY.com the officer stopped to render first aid, but the driver proceeded to leave the scene. A witness followed the Xterra and gave police the license plate and direction of travel. The driver was stopped a short time later on Lynnhaven Parkway and Va. Beach Blvd. -- about a mile from the scene, Barnes said.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Police arrested Brandon W. Meck, 25, of Va. Beach and charged him with DUI and Felony Hit and Run. He remains in the Va. Beach Correctional Facility without bond.
