Sussex County - Emergency crews are on the way to the scene of a train accident in Sussex County. According to Sgt. Michelle Cotten, spokeswoman for Virginia State Police, the accident happened around 8am near the intersection of Routes 460 and 604, about 3 miles west of Wakefield.
Sgt. Cotten said a logging truck tried to beat the train, but was clipped. It's not clear if there were more passengers in the truck other than the driver.
Roger Brown, who was driving the C & R truck, said the lights at the crossing went off as he was trying to cross. Brown said he tried to hurry across the tracks, but could not avoid the train colliding with the logs, knocking his truck over.
Sgt. Cotten said there were no injuries.
The freight train is operated by Pacific Southern. It's also unclear what type of freight the train was hauling.
