SOUTHAMPTON CO., Va. - A viewer called 10 on your side concerned after after a visit to her dog breeder's home in Southampton County. She says what she saw was heart sickening -- a dog with a dead chicken tied around its neck.
According to the viewer, "She [the dog breeder] said she was punishing the dog for killing her chicken."
Ten On Your Side obtained video showing the dog with the dead, young chicken with its legs tied around the dog's neck at the animal breeder's farm.
Donna, the viewer who took and sent the pictures, withheld her last name, but not her opinion. She says she was outraged.
"I was concerned with a dead animal's feet behind the dog's ear and its body around her neck. She could get a bacterial infection. She could get sick," Donna explained.
The dog breeder, Patricia Kinlaw said those people had no right on her property. She said she's upset and is now facing a charge for Failure to Bury Livestock.
According to Kinlaw, "I'm not a public facility. The dog was not in any pain."
Donna said she was so outraged by the bloody, smelly mess, she called 10 on your side and Southampton County authorities.
"I talked to the sheriff's department and they told me they went out to her property, witnessed the chicken around her neck and they told her to remove the chicken and that she complied," Donna said.
Donna says the dog appeared shaken, stiff and scared.
Kinlaw is expected in court next month on the misdemeanor charge.
