Mother pleads guilty to Murder, Neglect

NORFOLK, Va. - A Norfolk mother pleaded guilty Tuesday, to killing one child and neglecting another.

Heaven Kristine Smith was charged with her 10-month-old daughter Miracle Bryant's death and the neglect of Miracle's twin sister, Heaven. She's scheduled to be sentenced in July 2009.

The childrens' father, Corey Bryant, is scheduled to go on trial at the same time.

Police arrested Smith and Bryant in April 2008 after they were called to their home on Monitor Way. Their infant daughter Miracle was rushed to the hospital, where she died from malnutrition. Her twin sister Heaven was released from the hospital a month later.

The Chief Medical Examiner ruled Miracle's cause of death was "Medical and Nutritional Neglect."

At last check, the paternal grandmother was caring for Heaven.
