NORFOLK, Va. - WAVY.com began investigating the practice of police light bars being sold at public auction. The light bars can easily land into the wrong hands - with possible deadly consequences.

Thursday, we told you about a man named Dan. Dan purchased 140 police light bars from the city of Norfolk and sold 18 of them at $50 a piece. Following our reports on recent cases of people impersonating police officers, Dan rethought the idea of selling the light bars he'd purchased -- knowing they could very well end up in the wrong hands.

And though none of the cases we reported were related to his selling the light bars, Dan thought he should give them back to the city.

Friday, the city agreed to take back the unsold light bar and give Dan his money back.

Dan spent $2,450 for the lights; the city agreed to reimburse him the differnce between what he'd already sold and what he actually paid to the city -- which amounts to $1,550.

The city will now only sell these items to government agencies.
