Mosquito spraying scheduled

Aerial spraying for mosquitoes is scheduled at Langley Air Force Base and parts of the surrounding area from 6 - 9 p.m., July 7-9.

Areas scheduled for to sprayed include:

  • Langley
  • Bethel Manor housing
  • Hampton
  • Fort Eustis
  • York County
  • Poquoson
  • Newport News
  • Fort Monroe
  • Craney Island
  • Yorktown Naval Weapons Station
  • Parts of Portsmouth

A C-130 Hercules will be flying as low as 150 feet over the Peninsula to train aircrew and spray the above areas, according to officials at Langley. Officials say once mosquito spraying is complete, about 90 percent of adult mosquitoes should be killed.

Beekeepers are asked to keep their bees covered during the spraying operations.

Anyone with known allergic reactions is advised to stay indoors.
