Local military post, base reaction

UNDATED, VA - Quantico Marine Corps Base:

A spokeswoman says the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Va., is at "threat condition alpha" after shootings in Fort Hood, Texas, that left 12 people dead and 31 wounded.

1st Lt. Joy Crabaugh, Quantico's media officer, says the base is monitoring the situation at Fort Hood, and "pertinent" lines of communication were in place.

Crabaugh said the base is implementing appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the base and its Marine and civilian residents and employees.

Fort Eustis:

A spokesperson for the Fort Eustis, Va. Army post told WAVY.com their base has not closed. People are still allowed in and out. They are being vigilant and are watching the situation at Ft. Hood, said Monica Miller Rodgers.

Rogers said their thoughts are with their fellow comrades, killed and injured in the rampage.

During a live interview with WAVY.com, she said the mood at Fort Eustis is 'somber'.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth:

Deborah Kahlgreen, a spokesperson for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth tells WAVY.com they are at 4th protection BRAVO, which means that they are at 100 percent ID checks. She says this will cause major traffic back-ups Friday morning.

Navy Installations:

Beth Baker with the Navy says no installations are under lock down at this time. All appropriate security measures are in place at all Navy installations, she said. If there was a status change at any or all of the installations, the Navy would put out an advisory to us, she said.
