HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton University students are stunned a former student got onto campus with three guns and shot a pizza delivery man and a night guard.

"I'm really shocked that somebody would come after him," says Hampton University freshman Rasheed Merrell.

Merrell lives in Harkness Hall where the night security guard was one of two people shot by a gunman last night.

"He's a very honorable guy. He doesn't cause any trouble. He is by the book, so he's a little stern but...I respect him. I would think no harm would come from him."

Other students agree.

"He was a very, very dedicated person. He was always there. Anytime you actually had a problem or you was just going through a rough day, he was always there to lend a helping hand or word," says junior, Kendall Robinson.

As for the pizza delivery man, his wife tells only WAVY.com he lost his job in February and he recently began delivering pizzas to support his family.

While on her way to see him in the hospital Monday morning, she said, "This is all God. There is no doubt about it, this is a miracle that he is a live. God saved my husband yesterday morning. I believe without a doubt the gunman thought he was dead and that's why he walked away."

The pizza delivery man's wife is not the only one crediting God with keeping everyone alive.

"I think we were lucky. I don't know the motives, i don't know what happened really. Besides that people got shot, yeah, I feel lucky. God's watching over us," says freshman, Daniel Applewhit.

Investigators say the pizza delivery man is in stable condition and so is the alleged gunman. They say the night guard was released from the hospital Sunday.
