Funeral set for 4-year-old Jameer Woodley

COURTLAND, Va. - On Friday, 4-year-old Jameer Woodley was struck and killed by a school bus in Southampton County. Family members have scheduled the funeral for Tuesday, January 13 at 1 p.m. at the Apostolic Faith Church of God located at 680 Oak St. in Franklin. Woodley's burial will take place at Southview Cemetery.

School officials tell WAVY.com the incident happened Friday morning at Riverdale Elementary School in Courtland. Investigators and school administrators grabble with how and why the tragedy happened. Det. Cpl. Richard Morris tells us the Southampton County Sheriff's Office is conducting a full investigation. Morris also says no charges are pending.

In a news release, Southampton County Public School officials stated, "The matter is under investigation. In view of this situation, Riverdale Elementary School's parents' may pick up their students from school. If you choose not to pick up your child, dismissal will occur at 3:15 p.m."

The child's grandfather identified the little boy.

Angela Cross, a minister, says she was at the hospital with the family, including the child's grandfather - an administrator with the county schools.

"Every child, parents have been coming out weeping. Teachers are weeping and we just don't know how devastating this has really impacted the whole community at this time," Cross told WAVY.com.

Grief counselors were brought in to help students cope with this loss.
