CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The officer who was shot responding to a traffic stop made his first public appearance since the incident on the TV show, "Thinking Out Loud" Thursday. Chesapeake Police Officer Sean Fleming was shot five times responding to a police emergency earlier this month. Fleming commented Thursday on the shooting of Christopher White.

"June 1, 2009 is a day I will never forget," Officer Fleming said to members of the media after taping a segment of "Thinking out Loud". The broadcast will be seen on WCTV-Chesapeake's public service-municipal channel. "They are always the worst situations that bring out the best in us, and I know I couldn't have chosen a better family to serve with than the Chesapeake Police Department," Fleming said.

Fleming refused to discuss the specifics of the case and even refused to give comments on his reactions to the case. Fleming says each day is better than the day before. "Each day is getting better. I'm feeling better. As for the pain, I'm tolerating it."

Fleming was shot five times and police say by an AK-47 fired by White.

Fleming says he plan on returning to the force. "I haven't really decided when I'm going back to work. I'm still healing...it'll take more than this to scare me away," Fleming said.
