CHESAPEAKE, Va. - 10 On Your Side's Katie Collett and producer Jamie Shackelford are out at the Shred-it event in Chesapeake.

Jamie blogged from the event:

2:25 p.m. update:

After it was all said and done it looks like about 2,000 lbs of food were collected. We'll the exact numbers on Monday. Thanks to all who helped out with the event!

12:05 a.m. update:

This is Jamie Shackelford for WAVY.com and it's a beautiful day for shredding your old documents. I'm out at the BayPort Credit Union at Chesapeake Square and we have seen a terrific turnout.

The line started forming at 10 a.m. and it's been steady ever since. Shred-it is on-hand with 3 trucks and everyone that has come out has kept all 3 trucks very busy!

ARMA International is here passing out brochures on protecting yourself from identity theft and with information about record management. BayPort Credit Union has a tent set-up and a number of member representatives passing out goodies to anyone that wants them. Our very own Katie Collett is on-hand greeting people and signing autographs! And we've seen a terrific turnout from the Boy Scouts!!! There are approximately 9 Boy Scouts and 5 Group Leaders out here directing traffic and carrying boxes.

This event has already become a huge success. I just interviewed the CEO of the Southeastern VA Foodbank and she tells me that we already have more food than we had at our last event.

Thank you to all of the WAVY viewers who participated in this event. As always, we couldn't have done it without you. And I also want to send a big thank you out for Mother Nature who gave us a few hours of sunshine!!!
