PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A Woodrow Wilson High School student accused of firing shots inside the school on April 28 was in court Friday to face additional charges.
According to Bill Prince with the Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, the 15-year-old was arraigned on one count of armed burglary, use of a firearm during an armed burglary and two more charges of discharging a firearm in an occupied school, as well as two charges of assault and battery, for a previous case.
The teen had been recently suspended, when police say he entered the school with a gun and fired one round into a wall, then proceeded to the crowded cafeteria and fired two more shots. No one was hurt.
The student had his first court appearance the day after the shooting. At that hearing, prosecutors revealed that the student had five previous charges on file for assault and battery, as well as one for assault against a family member. They also said the student had previously violated his probation and failed to appear in court.
The Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney wants to try the teen as an adult.
