VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A woman pleaded guilty to prostitution and she was convicted of not disclosing that she was HIV positive, in a Virginia Beach court Wednesday. But a judge ruled she did not intend to infect anyone.
On July 3, 2009, two undercover detectives approached Patricia Ann Curry in the 800 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. and made a deal for them to have sex with her for $20 each.
According to court spokesperson Julie Pickell, the suspect took the officers behind a building, which is where the officers identified themselves. Curry told the officers initially that she was clean, but in a later interview they found out that she was HIV positive.
The public defender proved that Curry knew she had HIV but didn't intend to spread the condition.
Curry is scheduled to be sentenced on September 21. She faces up to a year in jail on each charge in addition to fines.
