Woman to be sentenced for bigamy

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (AP) - A 71-year-old Gloucester woman faces up to 10 years in prison when she's sentenced this week on a bigamy plea.
The Daily Press reports that Shirley Smith-Smart is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in Isle of Wight Circuit Court.
The defendant also is known as Shirley Inez Cassara.
She entered an Alford plea to a bigamy charge in January, admitting there is sufficient evidence for a court to find her guilty. In exchange, perjury and forgery charges were dropped.
The bigamy charge stems from the eighth of her 10 marriages. Prosecutors say she was already married when she wed again.
