VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach police say a FedEx truck driver failed to stop at red light when he hit and killed the driver of a minivan Friday morning.

The wreck happened at around 1 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Burton Station Road. Northampton was shut down for approximately five hours due to the accident.

Police say the FedEx truck was traveling southbound on Northampton Boulevard when he struck a  minivan making a left turn onto Northampton from Burton Station Road.

One neighbor heard the collision from her house. "My son came running downstairs and said, 'Mom, did you hear that big crash?' And then we all looked out the window and saw smoke coming from [the] area, we just didn't know exactly what it was," Tracey Hipp told WAVY.com.

The truck driver has been identified as 60-year-old  Walter Yasuk of New Jersey. He was ticketed for failing to stop at a red light.

Police have not released the victim's name. Yasuk was not hurt, according to police.
