WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) - A test of a new suborbital sounding rocket at NASA's Wallops Island launch facility Saturday morning was a success, according to a press release from NASA.
NASA launched the Talos-Terrier-Oriole rocket at 7 a.m. and it flew to an altitude of 167.4 miles before reentering in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Wallops Island.
There were no plans to recover the rocket's payload, according to the release.
The morning launch marked the first flight for the 65-foot tall Talos-Terrier-Oriole, which is being developed to support high-altitude space science research.
The next launch at Wallops Island will be no earlier than late October.
