Walk to End Alzheimer's raises $200k

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Hundreds of people put on their walking shoes in Newport News Saturday for the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's.
Similar walks were held in more than 600 communities nationwide to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
Saturday's walk was one of six in Southeastern Virginia and the biggest.
WAVY.com spoke with one organizer whose mother had the disease, but she says that's not the only reason she got involved.
"I don't do this for my mother, I do this for everyone else's loved ones that will get it until we find a cure," said Rona Altschuler, volunteer Walk chair.
About 1,200 people hit the streets in Port Warwick. By the end of today's event, they raised about $198,000.
