Virginia soldier killed in Afghanistan

AGHANISTAN (WAVY) - A 28-year-old Chester, Va. soldier was killed in Afghanistan Thursday.

According to a news release from the Department of Defense, Sgt. Aaron X. Wittman died when his unit was struck by armed fire during mounted patrol.

Wittman was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in Fort Stewart, Ga.

According to WSAV, Wittman joined the Army in October 2008 and had received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Medal.
