Norfolk Police recruit died days later

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Cameras at Norfolk Police Training Academy, which routinely record recruits and instructors during defensive tactics training, captured the moment two recruits collided head-on.

Nine days later one of those recruits, John Kohn, died in the hospital.

The video, obtained by the Virginian-Pilot, shows recruits wearing heavily padded protective head gear during the training.

At one point a recruit walks through a doorway inside the academy and runs right into another recruit. Seconds after the collision, the recruits got back to training and appeared to be fine, according to police.

Some time later, Kohn appeared a bit dizzy and he was taken to the hospital where he eventually died. It is not clear whether that run-in was a factor in Kohn's death.

His family has asked to keep results of the autopsy private.
