VDOT announces bridge closings

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - VDOT has planned to close several lanes of the James River Bridge and the HRBT during the next few weekends.

All eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 on the HRBT will be closed the weekend of Sept. 14, starting that Friday at 9 p.m. and lasting through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17. VDOT advises motorists use the MMMBT as an alternate route.

Additionally, the eastbound lanes will be closed the following weekends:

  • Friday, Sept. 21 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Sept. 24 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 28 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Oct. 1 at 5 a.m.

The James River Bridge southbound lanes will close for five consecutive weekends starting Friday, Sept. 14. VDOT says motorists are advised to use the MMMBT as an alternate route.

  • Friday, Sept. 14 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Sept. 17 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 21 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Sept. 24 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 28 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Oct. 1 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 5 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Oct. 8 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 12 starting at 9 p.m. and lasting through Monday, Oct. 15 at 5 a.m.
