VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Beach police tell WAVY.com a 17-year-old has been charged in connection with a rape and robbery that occurred Friday morning in the 5100 blk. of Dandy Court in the Bayside Arms section of Virginia Beach. Police believe the teen is connected to several other robberies in the city.

According to police, the suspect may also be connected to a robbery that happened Thursday on Downeast Court at North Beach Apartments. Police say during that incident the suspect pistol whipped a man exiting his vehicle.

Public Information Officer Adam Bernstein told WAVY.com they were especially concerned with getting the suspect off the street because the robberies were becoming increasingly violent.

The teen is currently in custody, facing numerous charges to include: Robbery, Abduction with Intent to Defile, Rape, Sodomy, Use of a Firearm and Wearing a Mask in Public.

More charges are pending as other cases are being investigated.

Police are also looking for a second suspect connected to the crimes mentioned above.

The rape victim told WAVY.com she did what the suspect told her to do, fearing for her life.

"All I was saying, was Lord, I'm not ready to die yet. They told me if I screamed they were going to shoot me in the head, so I just cooperated."

"The traumatic interview the detective had with the victim, listening to what she had to go through, we knew this was somebody we had to get off the street," said Bernstein.

The victim had this message for the suspect: "You had a gun to my head and you're behind bars now; don't know whether you're going to have life or not, how does it feel to be threatened like you threatened me with a gun to my head."

The Commonwealth's Attorney plans to ask that the suspect be certified as an adult due to the severity of the charges.
