VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - More than 2,500 people took the plunge Saturday -- the "Polar Plunge" that is.
Thousands braved the chilly Atlantic Ocean wearing nothing but swimsuits and zany costumes - all for a good cause. Proceeds from Saturday's Polar Plunge benefit Special Olympics Virginia.
A Friday Night Pre-Plunge Party and concert on the Beach, as well as a Pee Wee Plunge for children 12 and under were just some of the newest events at this year's plunge.
Rick Jeffrey of Special Olympics Virginia said the Polar Plunged raised $805,000 in pledges for the organization this year.
Since 1993, more than 26,000 plungers have raised more than $4.7 million for Special Olympics Virginia.
