VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - SUPERVALU, parent company of Farm Fresh, has announced Gaelo de la Fuente will replace long-time president Ron Dennis who retired from the company on March 5. Dennis had been with the company since 1998. He was in been in the grocery business for more than 52 years.
de la Fuente recently served as group vice president, retail operations support for SUPERVALU and according to the company, will resume his new role effective immediately.
SUPERVALU senior vice president of retail operations Brian Huff said of de la Fuente's experience, "Gaelo is an experienced leader in the grocery industry and is well-positioned to continue to grow FARM FRESH in the marketplace."
According to a news release, before joining SUPERVALU in 2008, de la Fuente served as vice president of retail operations for the Atlantic Division of Food Lion. de la Fuente also worked for Hannaford Brothers Co., where he began his grocery industry career.
de la Fuente holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from the Universidad de las Americas-Puebla in Mexico and a master's in business administration from the State University of New York.
de la Fuente will relocate to the Virginia Beach area with his family from Minneapolis.
