VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - At 5 p.m. Saturday, City Manager James K. Spore issued a declaration of local emergency for the City of Virginia Beach because of the approach of Hurricane Sandy.
If the storm continues as forecast, Virginia Beach can expect tropical storm winds and steady rain for two days. Residents can also anticipate downed trees, power outages and localized flooding in flood-prone areas. Tidal flooding can be expected in low-lying areas of the Lynnhaven Basin. Storm surge along coastal areas will be significant.
