VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A New Jersey woman and her dog are driving across the country to help give their four-legged friends a new leash on life.
Lauren O'Connor and her Great Dane Harley are making the trip to raise $100,000 for animal shelters and rescuers.
On Sunday, Lauren and Harley stopped at the Care A Lot pet store in Virginia Beach to raise awareness for their cause.
Lauren, who quit her job as a marketing manager to pursue her passion for dogs and adventure told WAVY.com, it's "definitely a little crazy especially with all the things going on in the economy. But, I think once you find what really makes you happy, Harley's really made me happy, animals make me happy. You know, there's a need. To get the word out there about rescues and shelters and they really, really need that stuff."
Lauren and Harley plan to visit 56 cities in 100 days.
