JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A 33-year-old man was killed when the van he was driving struck a tree in James City County Sunday night.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya with Virginia State Police said the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Route 606, known as Riverview Road, near Newman Road. A white E350 Ford van driven by Brian Anthony Middaugh of Williamsburg went off the roadway, where it struck the tree.
Middaugh was pronounced dead at the scene. Anaya said he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, while speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
According to Anaya, a passenger in the vehicle, a minor, was transported to the Medical College of Virginia for injuries. Their condition is unknown.
