VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - WAVY.com has learned a Virginia Beach high school quarterback was arrested earlier this week.

Friday night, the Salem Sun Devils were prepared to take the field against Oscar Smith with freshman quarterback, Jarrel Lightbody who usually wears number 15. Lightbody started last week for the team after senior quarterback Bucky Hodges hurt his hand.

Hodges ended up starting the playoff game Nov. 16, but Lightbody was nowhere to be found.

WAVY.com has learned Lightbody was arrested Nov. 14 for a robbery that happened Sept. 29 along the 1600 block of Salem Road.

Three suspects surrounded two teens who were walking home. One of the teens got scared and started to run but fell down in the road. WAVY.com has been told a suspect grabbed the teen's backpack, dumped it out and when there was nothing inside of it he wanted, he ran away.

Sources tell WAVY.com that suspect is Lightbody, charged with robbery and assault and battery.

The public information officer for the Virginia Beach Police Department told WAVY.com it is department policy not to release the names of minors involved.

WAVY.com asked Salem High School Head Coach Robert Jackson before Friday's game about the arrest, but Jackson declined comment.
