VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - An ex-police officer has been sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of sexual abuse.
Michael Alan Chilldres, 46, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Aug. 20, with 20 years suspended barring good behavior on five counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of indecent liberties.
Child Protective Services received a report Dec. 2, 2011, and Commonwealth Attorney Harvey Bryant says Chilldres sexually assaulted a female on numerous occasions between 2008 and 2011. The victim had told a friend about the abuse, who had contacted the police.
Chilldres, who had been employed with the department from November 1993 until May 2012 was assigned to the Services Division of the Virginia Beach Police Department, which maintains traffic, warrants and accident reports.
Neighbors told WAVY.com in December 2011 they were shocked by the allegations.
"He's a very nice man and I've known him since the day he moved in and i don't believe for one second the accusations against him is the truth," Chilldres' neighbor Barbara said. "I don't believe it for one second. I've watched him with his children. I know the man. I don't believe it for one second."
Chilldres' bond was denied at a Dec. 6 bond hearing, and he pleaded guilty April 30 .
