VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police said they found the body of a missing Virginia Beach man Friday afternoon in Crystal Lake at the Oceanfront.

According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, Charles Edward Griffin was reported missing Jan. 20 by his family and friends.

Moyers said Griffin attended a party on the evening of Jan. 19 in the 3700 block of Atlantic Avenue. She said the party was at a hotel, was broken up by staff due to noise and police were called.

Griffin, 27, had left the party before the police showed up during the early morning hours of Jan. 20.

Moyers said that morning, residents in the area of the 400 block of 49th Street heard a male yelling for help. Police responded to the area after several phone calls from concerned residents and did not locate anyone.

After Griffin was reported missing, officers again searched the area of 49th Street and located his body five feet below surface in Crystal Lake.

Griffin's cause of death has not been released.
