VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Citizens Committee met Wednesday to discuss the possibility of an 18,500-seat arena in Virginia Beach.

The arena could bring a major league sports team to southeast Virginia. The committee, made up of 38 people, met to discuss the positives and negatives of bringing the arena to the resort city.

The committee is made up of local leaders of business and civic organizations. Members of the committee will not take a position on the project but will rather act as a public information source to the city council.

"There's a lot of information to date, but there will also be information that is going to come forward in the future, as council discussed, negotiations are ongoing," Citizens Committee Chairman Linwood Branch said. "This will be a way to communicate that to the public in a timely fashion, so they can keep abreast of the project and let council know how they feel about it."
