VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A 17-year-old girl is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Virginia Beach with no bond, after police say she used Craigslist to lure a robbery victim.

The teen posted an ad on Craigslist selling an iPhone. An interested buyer answered the ad and both arranged to meet on Nov. 29 outside a food mart on Newtown Road around 8:30 p.m.

When the man arrived the girl, who was accompanied by a male friend, asked to see the money he brought for the purchase. Once the victim pulled out several hundred dollars, the teen pulled out a gun. She took the money and both her and the male suspect ran towards an apartment complex across the street.

Police spokesman Jimmy Barnes said police used the cell phone number the teen used to set up the robbery to track her down at her home. The charges filed against her are not available at this time.

Barnes said officers are still looking for her accomplice.

Police are called to robbery cases where a suspect uses Craigslist as a set up at least once a week. Barnes urges you to be cautious when using the online want ad to make any purchases or transactions.
