VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a 17-year-old facing murder charges will be tried as an adult due to the severity of the crime.

According to Harvey Bryant with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, Nijel Isaiah Chambers was indicted Monday for first degree murder and use of firearm.

Chambers is charged in the Nov. 17 shooting death of 36-year-old Rene Rivera in the 600 block of Winding Way.

Rivera was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
