VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A teacher at Corporate Landing Middle School resigned after being charged with selling and distributing marijuana. Her husband is also charged in the case.
According to the Virginia Courts website and police, Allison Tuthill Gaul was arrested at her home on Dec. 21, 2011 for sale or distribution of marijuana and conspiracy to sell or distribute marijuana.
She resigned from the school system on Dec. 22, according to a school spokesperson.
According to Gaul's arrest warrant, Gaul has $100,000 in credit card debt.
Gaul, a French teacher, started at Corporate Landing Middle School in July 2008. She was hired by the Virginia Beach Public School system in Aug. of 2003.
According to Virginia beach Public Schools Spokeswoman Nancy Socia, Gaul also worked at Landstown, Princess Anne and Cox High Schools.
Gaul's husband, Michael John Gaul, is also charged in this case. He has three felony charges against him, including conspiracy to manufacture marijuana, manufacture not for personal use marijuana and possession of the drug in regards to the two prior accounts.
According to a Virginia state law, all district employees must undergo an FBI background investigation. If any teacher faces felony charges, that teacher must notify the district.
Both Michael and Allison Gaul are due in court on Feb. 3.
