HAMPTON, Va. - At Fame All Stars Show Day, the scholarship presentation for Isiah Jones was hard enough.
"I never imagined I'd be doing it for Isiah," said Fame All Stars manager Andrea Cassevah.
The mother and father of the Cox High School senior and cheerleader stood nearby, mourning the loss of their son who was shot and killed outside a Virginia Beach strip mall last April. At the time, Isiah's older brother, Dobbie, spoke for the family.
"It's hard to breathe when I found out. I couldn't probably breathe for three hours so it's just hard to breathe," Dobbie Jones said.
In the days after the shooting, a crowd gathered in the parking lot where Isiah died, coming together to mourn.
No one imagined they'd have to mourn his brother so soon.
"Dobbie was a kind soul. His strength after his brother's death allowed us all to be strong," said Cassevah.
Early last Wednesday morning, while crossing Shore Drive, police say a car hit Dobbie Jones. The impact cracked the windshield and Dobbie suffered injuries so serious, he died two nights later.
And suddenly, the scholarship in remembrance of Isiah Jones was now for Dobbie as well.
"While we can all question why, we will never know or understand God's reasons," said Cassevah to the crowd gathered around her at Show Day.
The Fame family came together Sunday afternoon for two parents who lost two sons so close together.
The scholarships in Isiah and Dobbie's names were awarded to Robert Scianna and Juwan Arnold.
Police said Dobbie Jones was drinking the night he was hit by a car. The driver has not been charged.
