Police ID elderly man in VB crash

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - One person died in a single-vehicle accident in Virginia Beach Wednesday evening.
According to Jimmy Barnes with the Virginia Beach Police Department, a car traveling eastbound crashed just before 7 p.m. on Northampton Boulevard at the South Independence Boulevard exit.
Barnes said the car drifted into the guardrail and hit a utility pole. The driver, identified as Jerry H. Simpkins, 74, of Virginia Beach was pronounced dead at the scene.
Simpkins cause of death with be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
