VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia State Police motorist assist unit was struck while on the scene of an accident Monday afternoon.

State Police spokesperson Sergeant Michelle Anaya told WAVY.com a dump truck carrying a full load of gravel lost a wheel and struck another vehicle on I-264 WB, just west of Independence Boulevard.

One person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Sgt. Anaya said.

During the accident investigation, Anaya said a Virginia State Police motorist assist unit was struck from behind. The motorist assist did not sustain any injuries and the damage is minor, Anaya said.

The accident slowed traffic for some time as crews worked to clear the scene.

Last Friday, a trooper and VDOT worker were hit while on the scene of a multiple vehicle accident on Interstate 664 NB at the 35th Street on-ramp.

Remember to slow down and move over when approaching an accident scene. If you can't move over, at least slow down -- it's the law.
